Experiment with us!

At its core, Movement Sustainability Commons is fueled by a desire to be an experiment of interdependence and self-reliance, both looking to contribute to the work of people and groups working for justice, economic democracy, and liberation, and also to evolve through the contributions of the communities we work with. In order to support this, the Commons intentionally supports experiments that meet unique community needs.

    • Opportunities to investigate and/or test strategies that fill existing gaps in movement infrastructure

    • Learning opportunities for the Commons as a whole, with the intention of sharing results openly (intellectual property is shared with the commons and the people doing the experiment)

    • Short term and completed in 8-12 months

      • If an experiment gains momentum, takes root, and grows beyond this one off funding opportunity, other financial and non-financial supports can be developed to nurture and support growth through the Commons “offering” umbrella

    • A seed grant that is funded at $5,000

    • Unrestricted grants for individuals to do their own exploration and relationship building disconnected from the Commons

    • Actions separate from addressing a unique problem within movement ecosystem

    • Social, community, relational gatherings or retreats (other avenues will be made available to support these)

    • Permanent or long-term contracts

    • Worker Self Directed Non Profit Transition Support

    • Executive Director Transition Templates

    • Identifying Movement Needs for Developing Broad-Based and Sustainable Leadership: A Fellowship for Mid-Career Organizers

    • a one time communications intervention training;

    • research with report on what are the physical needs of community groups who protest for a shared protest “library”

    • a group of people who have already done some research/data collection want to test a consultant offering with 1 identified organization

  • 2026 process coming soon!
